Drug Uses
Zyloprim is used to reduce the production of uric acid in your body. It treats gout, increased levels of uric acid caused due to cancer treatment, and kidney stones that are caused by high levels of uric acid.
How Taken
Zyloprim can be found as tablets for oral use. The usual dose is once a day, usually after meal. You should drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids each day while taking Zyloprim unless your doctor has given you other directions. You should avoid excessive amounts of vitamin C supplements or fruit juice while taking Zyloprim. Too much vitamin C may lead to development of kidney stones.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting any treatment with Zyloprim, inform you physician if you have kidney or liver disease. In such cases, you may require a lower dose of Zyloprim or special medical monitoring during therapy. Zyloprim is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if it can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. It is known that Zyloprim gets into breast milk and it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
If you skip a dose, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is too close to the next dose, forget about the missed dose and follow your usual dose schedule.
Possible Side Effects
If you observe any of the following serious side effect reactions, discontinue taking Zyloprim and find instant medical help: blood in your urine or pain when you urinate; an allergic reaction (breathing difficulty; throat closing, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); a rash; eye irritation; chills, fever, or joint aches; or severe nausea or vomiting. There are possible to appear other less serious reactions. You should not stop taking Zyloprim and contact your physician in case of headache, upset stomach or diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness; or an acute attack of gouty arthritis. Side effects other than those mentioned above are also likely to occur. Advise your doctor about any reaction that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Storage
Keep at 15-25°C (59-77°F) in a dry place and away from light.
Overdose
Symptoms regarding Zyloprim overdose are not studied. If you think you have overdosed, contact your physician.

As Zyloprim may cause dizziness or drowsiness, you should be cautious while driving, operating machinery, or performing other hazardous activities.
