Drug Uses
Wellbutrin SR (Anti Depressant) is a pharmaceutical prescription antidepressant, which influences directly on the brain and other nerve cells. It is also prescribed for treating bipolar depression, ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder), chronic fatigue syndrome, nicotine addiction, cocaine addiction, and lower back pain. Also helps to quitt smoking (identical to Zyban). It is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or other known antidepressant agents.
How Taken
Wellbutrin SR is produced in tablets for oral use. The usual dose is one to three times a day and may be taken in combination with food or alone.The tablets should not be crushed, chewed or divided. You should not discontinue suddenly Wellbutrin SR without first consulting your doctor, especially in case you have taken large doses for a long time. Your doctor may instruct you to decrease your dose gradually. This drug shows its full effectiveness after a few weeks of treatment.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting treatment with Wellbutrin SR, inform your doctor if in case you gave : a history of heart disease, seizures or head injury or brain tumor, liver or kidney disease, diabetes, eating disorder, alcohol dependence, any allergies, the intent to quit smoking. As this drug can cause dizziness or drowsiness, you should be cautious while driving or working with machines until your body adjust to the medicine. Avoid the use of alcohol as it increases the risk of seizures. Chronic alcohol users who suddenly stop the consuming of alcohol during Wellbutrin SR treatment may also increase the risk of having seizures. Seizures can be also caused by suddenly stopping the use of certain tranquilizers. If you are older than 65 years of age, you may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. Inform your doctor in case you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant during taking Wellbutrin SR. This drug is known to pass into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to the infant, do not breast-feed during treatment. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Missed Dose
If you forget a dose, take it as possible but not if it is within 4 hours of the next dose. If it is already time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and follow your usual dose chedule. Do not take two doses at a time.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects are not very common. Possible symptoms are headache, dry mouth, increased sweating, constipation, nausea/vomiting, anxiety, fatigue and blurred vision. If any of these conditions get worse or become persistent, contact your doctor. There may also occur palpitations, unusual weight loss or gain, agitation, trouble sleeping. Other more rare reactions include: dizziness, tremor, fainting, slowed movements, mood changes, difficulty urinating, decreased sex drive, and drowsiness. Other complaints are: mental problems, seizures, fever, muscle aches, yellowing of the eyes or skin. If you observe any symptoms of an allergic reaction to this drug, find instant medical help. Signs of allergic reactions can be: rash, trouble breathing, and itching, swelling, or severe dizziness. In case you notice other effects not mentioned above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Storage
Keep at usual room temperature, 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F). Dispense in a tight, light-resistant container.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, seek emergency medical help. Overdose symptoms include hallucinations, seizures, loss of consciousness, a fast heartbeat, weakness, and heart attack.
More Information
There may occur dizziness while you rise from a sitting or lying position. Try to rise slowly to prevent dizziness and a possible fall. Taking bigger doses of this medicine may increase the risk of a seizure. You should limit the consumption of caffeine while taking Wellbutrin SR.
