Drug Uses
Transderm Scop is prescribed to relieve relieve vomiting, nausea, and dizziness associated with motion sickness. Transderm Scop is an anticholinergic medicine. Anticholinergics effect the the body in various ways. One of their functions is to decrease the secretion of fluids, slow the stomach and intestine, and dilate the pupils.
How Taken
Transderm Scop is produced in patches, which should be placed on the skin behind your ear. Put one patch to a clean, dry, hairless area behind the ear. It must stay there for at least 4 hours before its effects shows out. Each patch is good for use around 3 days after it is applied. At the end of the third day or may be earlier if you do not need it any more, remove it and throw it away. Make sure, you wrap the patch in paper so not to expose anyone else to the remaining medication. Make sure you wash your hands and the area behind your ear so that there can be removed all traces.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting any treatment with Transderm Scop, inform your doctor in case you have liver disease, kidney disease, an enlarged prostate, bladder problems, difficulty urinating or glaucoma. Transderm Scop is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if this drug can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. Transderm Scop is not known to get into breast milk and it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Transderm Scop is not suitable for children as they are much more sensitive to the side effects of scopolamine.
Missed Dose
Change the old patch with a new one as soon as you remember. Put it again behind the ear. If it is already time for the next dose, just skip it and resume your usual dose schedule. Do not put two patches at a time.
Possible Side Effects
You should discontinue treatment with Transderm Scop and seek emergency medical help in case you observe an allergic reaction (breathing difficulty; throat closing; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). There may occur other not that serious side effects, such as dry mouth, nose, or throat; drowsiness; restlessness, nervousness, excitation,or insomnia; dizziness; blurred vision; decreased appetite, or vomiting; nausea, difficulty urinating; or an irregular or fast heartbeat. If you experience any of the listed conditions, do not discontinue treatment and contact your physician. There are also possible to appear other complaints in case you stop treatment suddenly after you have taken it for more than 3 days. Such symptoms are: vomiting, nausea, dizziness, headache and poor coordination. In those cases, do not doubt to contact your physician.
Storage
Keep at normal room temperature between 20°C - 25°C (68°F - 77°F).
Overdose
In case of an overdose, find instant medical help. Possible overdose symptoms are: dizziness, drowsiness, agitation, seizures or convulsions, excitability, hallucinations, and death.
More Information
As Transderm Scop may cause dizziness or drowsiness and blurred vision, be cautious when driving, working with machines, or performing other hazardous activities. Avoid these activities in case you feel dizzy or drowsy or you have blurred vision. You should not consume alcohol while you are taking Transderm Scop. It may increase the feeling of dizziness.
