Drug Uses
Skelaxin is a muscle relaxant. It is prescribed to relieve pain and stiffness of muscle injuries, including strains, sprains and muscle spasms.
How Taken
Skelaxin is purposed for oral use. The usual dose for adults and children over 12 years of age is two tablets (800 mg) three to four times a day. In order to avoid any stomach problems, you can take Skelaxin in combination with food or immediately after meals. You should not take more than the prescribed dose or take it more often or for a longer period of time than instructed by your doctor.
Warnings/Precautions
You should not take Skelaxin in case of acute intermittent porphyria. Before starting any treatment with Skelaxin, your doctor have to be informed if you have ever had or have liver disease. In this case, you may require a lower dose or a special medical observation during your treatment. There is not any information whether Skelaxin is harmful to an unborn baby. You should not use Skelaxin before consulting your doctor, in case of pregnancy. It is also not declared if Skelaxin goes into breast milk. In case of breast-feeding, again contact your doctor first. This drug Is not suitable for children younger than 12 years of age.
Missed Dose
If you forget a dose of Skelaxin, take it as soon as you realize within 1 hour. Otherwise skip that dose and follow your usual dosing schedule. Do not take two doses at a time.
Possible Side Effects
The most common reactions to Skelaxin are vomiting, nausea, gastrointestinal upset, dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and nervousness or "irritability." Other possible symptoms are: hypersensitivity reactions, characterized by a light rash with or without pruritus; hemolytic anemia; leukopenia; jaundice.
Storage
You should store Skelaxin at normal room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) and prevent from moisture and sunlight. Do not put in the bathroom.
Overdose
In case of an overdose, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Possible overdose symptoms are severe drowsiness or unconsciousness.
