Drug Uses
Retin-A is purposed for improving the appearance and texture of the skin. It contributes to the superficial peeling of the epidermis. Retin-A effects on both - superficial (epidermis) and the deep (dermis) skin parts. Its major benefit is decreasing the effects of sunlight that result in aging by increasing the speed of the surface cells replacement.
How Taken
Apply a thin layer of the drug to the damaged areas once a day right before going to bed. For your convenience use a gauze pad or cotton swab to apply the liquid. You should wash your hands right away after use. The application of larger or smaller doses of this drug will not improve the results, just the opposite, there may occur side effects. Do not put the drug in touch with the eye, mouth or open cuts area as it can cause skin irritation. You can observe worsening of your acne symptoms during the first days of treatment. Do not stop using Retin-A as its effects will be obvious after three to six weeks. Do not wash face excessively and use a soft soap.Your skin can get irritated by the use of different cleansers, abrasive soaps, medicated creams or lotions. Consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the use of such products. Be cautious if you use other acne preparations while using this medication.
Warnings/Precautions
This medication can lead to increase of sunlight sensitivity, wind and cold. During treatment with Renova, avoid continuous exposure to the sun and sunlamps. Make sure you wear appropriate protective clothing and use an effective sunscreen. If you are pregnant, use this drug only if needed. There is not any information whether Retin-A appears in breast milk. Before breast-feeding, consult your doctor.
Missed Dose
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is to close to the next one, just skip the missed one and go back to your usual dose schedule. You should not take two doses at a time in order to make up for the missed one.
Possible Side Effects
As there exists a risk of possible skin irritation, it is better to start treatment on a small skin area. Do not expose the affected areas to the sun or to ultraviolet rays as this may lead to additional irritation. You should avoid such exposure during treatment as much as possible or you should us an appropriate sun block. In the beginning of the treatment you may observe worsening of the symptoms. This reaction is normal as small cysts deep within the skin are being eliminated at an accelerated rate. The use of this medication can increase sensitivity to wind and cold. Try to avoid continuous exposure to the sun and sunlamps. Make sure you wear appropriate protective clothing and use an effective sunscreen. If you are hypersensitive to any ingredient, discontinue use.
Storage
Keep at normal room temperature and prevent from sunlight. Make sure you store the dug out of reach of children.
Overdose
If you increase the amount of applied Retin-A, it will not give you any better or faster results. Just the opposite, it may lead to symptoms of peeling, redness or discomfort. Possible overdose reactions may include: facial flushing, headache, celosias, dizziness, abdominal pain and ataxia.
More Information
In case you have been previously treated with keratolytic preparations or exfoliants, you need to wait until any skin rash clears up and then begin Retin-A treatment. There is not any information about the effect of Retin-A on pregnant women. That’s why you should take this drug only under a doctor's supervision and when truly needed. The good results of Retin-A almost always come in combination with skin irritation. This especially regards the treatment of acne, and it is a sign of its efficiency and the symptoms disappear once applications become more spaced out.
