Drug Uses
Lipitor is taken during diet changes (restriction of cholesterol and fat intake) in order to reduce the amount of cholesterol and certain fatty substances in your blood. Accumulation of cholesterol and fats along the walls of your arteries (this process is known as atherosclerosis) decreases blood flow, the supply of oxygen to your heart, brain, and other parts of your body. The lowering your cholesterol blood level and fats contributes to prevent heart disease, angina (Chest pain), strokes, and heart attacks.
How Taken
Lipitor comes can be found as tablets for oral administration. The usual dose is one tablet daily alone or combined with food. To avoid skipping doses, take Lipitor every day at the same time. At the beginning of the treatment, your doctor may prescribe you lower doses to start with and gradually increase them later on. Lipitor should be taken even if you feel already well. Do not stop taking it without your doctor’s approval. Alow-cholesterol, low-fat diet is recommended.
Warnings/Precautions
In case you suffer from liver disease, you should warn your doctor first before starting any Lipitor treatment. You should warn your doctor if you have also a chronic muscular disease, you have to go through major surgery, or suffer from a blood disorder. In those cases, there is a chance that your health condition may not be suitable for Lipitor treatment or you may need a special dosage adjustment or special monitoring while taking his drug. Lipitor is in the FDA pregnancy category X. Lipitor is known to cause birth defects if it is taken during pregnancy. Do not take it if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment. It is not declared whether Lipitor passes into breast milk. Do not take this medication without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Missed Dose
I If you forget to take a dose, just dot as soon as you remember. If it is too close to the next dose, leave the missed one and follow your normal dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time in order to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
Side effects are rare but still there is a chance to occur. Consult your doctor if you experience ay of the listed symptoms, especially if they are serious and persistent:

-heartburn
-blurred vision
-diarrhea
-constipation
-dizziness

-muscle weakness or cramps with or without a fever.
Storage
You should keep Lipitor in its original container, tightly closed, and away from children. Place it at average room temperature and make sure it stays away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Get rid of the drug if it is expired or no longer needed. Discuss with your doctor the right way to store your medication.
Overdose
