Drug Uses
Flonase is used to treat multiple nasal symptoms of congestion, sneezing, and itchy, runny nose. Flonase Nasal Spray is suitable only for external use to the nasal mucosa by using a metering, atomizing spray pump.
How Taken
Its efficiency depends on its regular use, so make sure you follow your doctor’s prescriptions. Flonase relieves inflammation, so its important once you begin treatment to use it once a day, every day as instructed. The usual adult dose is 2 sprays (50 mcg of Flonase Nasal Spray propionate each) for each nostril once a day (total daily dose, 200 mcg). You can also apply it into two times, the same dosage divided into 100 mcg given twice daily (e.g., 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.) The effect stays the same. The dose can be reduced after few days of treatment to 100 mcg (1 spray in each nostril) once a day for maintenance therapy. Some patients (12 years of age and above) suffering from seasonal allergic rhinitis may need to use 200 mcg once a day to control the symptoms. Scheduled regular use can help the greater control of the symptoms.
Warnings/Precautions
Before starting treatment with Flonase, inform your doctor in case you have a bacterial, viral or fungal infection of any kind. The substances of this drug, if absorbed by your body, can lead to unability of the immune system to fight off infections. If you have infection of any kind, you may not be able to use the drug. Flonase Nasal Spray is in the FDA pregnancy category C. There is not any information if Flonase Nasal Spray can cause any harm to an unborn baby. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or if there is a chance to get pregnant during treatment. This drug is known to get into breast milk and it may have negative influences on a nursing infant. Consult your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. Flonase Nasal Spray nasal is not suitable for children younger than 4 years of age.
Missed Dose
If it happens to miss a dose, take it as soon as you notice. If it is already time for the next one, skip the forgotten one and go back to your usual dose schedule. Do not take two doses at a time to catch up.
Possible Side Effects
There are not registered any serious side effects. If you experience an allergic reaction (breathing difficulties, throat closing, swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives), find instant medical help. Less serious side effects are more likely to occur. Do not stop taking Flonase Nasal Spray nasal and consult your doctor if you experience: bleeding nose; asthma symptoms; headache or lightheadedness; nausea; cough; yeast infection in the nose or throat (white patches); sneezing after application; stinging or burning of the nose; glaucoma, or tearing of the eyes; nasal stuffiness or a runny nose; perforated septum (inside left of nose); increased pressure in the eyes, or unpleasant (or loss of) taste or smell. There can also occur side effects that are not among the listed above. Consult your doctor about any condition that seems to you unusual.
Storage
Flonase Nasal Spray should be kept between 4° and 30°C (39° and 86°F). Make sure it is out of the reach of children. You should not use the spray after the expiration date..
Overdose
Overdoses are not common. If you suspect an overdose, contact an emergency room or a poison control center.
More Information
During treatment avoid items or activities that you know are allergens for you and make your symptoms worse. Do not let any dust or pet fur aggravate your condition. Be careful to expose yourself to any possible sources of infection. Do not get in touch with people suffering from chicken pox, measles, or any other type of infection.
