Aldara Cream aims to relieve external genital and perianal warts and differs from most other available treatments. It is applied by the patient and it directly attacks the virus instead of just eliminating the warts. So it treats the problem from the inside.
How Taken
Aldara cream is very simple to be applied at home. It is put on the damaged areas and it is left on during the night. You have to wash it off in the morning. Aldara Cream should be used the way it is prescribed by your doctor. It is for external use only. It should not be taken orally and get in touch with your eyes, nose, lips or nostrils. Use the cream only following the instructions of your doctor and discuss with him any questions that may arise. Aldara Cream is suitable for different kinds of skin problems. It should be applied only on the damaged areas that need treatment. Your doctor will give you further instructions how to apply the cream, how often and how long regarding your condition. You should not use it longer than your doctor has told you. The prolonged too frequent and too excessive use of the cream can lead to serious skin reaction and unwanted side effects. Inform your doctor if Aldara Cream does not give you the expected relief. It is usually used only once a day for 3 days a week and it is applied externally on the damaged areas. It is left on the skin for a period of 6 to 10 hours. You should apply till the disappearance of the warts or up to 16 weeks. In case of actinic keratosis, Aldara Cream should be applied once a day for 2 days a week. It is left on the skin for at least 8 hours. The treatment period should last complete 16 weeks even when all the signs of actinic keratoses disappears. The treated area should be no larger than your forehead or one of your cheeks (around 7 inches).
Warnings/Precautions
Contact your doctor if you experience skin irritation or symptoms similar to flu (fatigue, diarrhea, fever, headache or muscle pain). It is possible that you should limit the frequency of the application of the medicine or discontinue using it for a while until all side effects disappear. During the treatment, while the medicine is still on the skin, you should avoid genital, oral or anal sex. You should be careful to remove all traces of the cream before you have sex. The drug contains substances that can influence latex (rubber) condoms, diaphragms, or cervical caps leading to improper work and higher risk of pregnancy. You should not apply any other products on the areas you treat with Aldara Cream unless you are instructed by your doctor. Don’t give your cream to other people though they may have the same complaints as you. If you are pregnant, first talk to your doctor.
Missed Dose
If you skip a dose, apply it as soon as possible and then follow your usual schedule.
Possible Side Effects
The most possible side effects of the Aldara Cream treatment are the following symptoms:

Storage
It should be stored in a room temperature below 25oC (77oF). It should not be freezed. The out of date products should be thrown away safely. You should keep it in its original container, closed tightly and away from children.
Overdose
Overdoses of the cream causes increased risk of major local skin reactions and the risk of systemic reactions.
