Drug Uses
Aciphex is a medicine that lowers the level of acid, produced by the stomach. It is prescribed for ulcers, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD or heartburn), including cases of exceptive production of stomach acid.
How Taken
Aciphex is produced as delayed –release, enteric coated tablets and it should be taken orally. Adults should take one delayed-release tablet, each containing 20 mg of Aciphex, only once a day for a period of four to eight weeks. Each tablet needs to be taken with a glass of water. The tablets should be swallowed whole without breaking, chewing or splitting. They are made to be slowly absorbed by the body.
Warnings/Precautions
It is essential, before starting to take Aciphex, to inform your doctor in case you take the following medicines: ketoconazole (Nizoral), ampicillin (Omnipen, Principen), iron (Feosol, Mol-Iron, Fergon, Femiron, others), digoxin (Lanoxin, Lanoxicaps), or cyclosporine (Sandimmune, Neoral). In those cases, it is possible that it is strongly forbidden for you to take Aciphex, or your dose should be specially fixed or you may need to be under a careful supervision during the acceptance of Aciphex, due to the use of the medicines listed above. There is also a possibility that there are other drugs, which can influence the Aciphex treatment. That is why, it is highly recommended to discuss that matter with your doctor and pharmacist before taking any other medicines with unknown origin.
Missed Dose
If you skip a dose, you should take it as soon as possible. If it is too close to the next dose, just follow your normal dose schedule. You should not take two pills a time in order to make up for the missed dose.
Possible Side Effects
Aciphex rarely causes serious side effects. If you experience any kind of allergy (breathing difficulties, suffocation, lip, tongue or face swelling; or hives) due to Aciphex, cut off taking it and instantly find medical help. Other not that serious side effects are also unusual. There may be observed other impacts than the listed ones. You should consult your physician if you experience any other suspicious influences that may be due to the taking of Aciphex.
Storage
Aciphex should be kept away from children. It is best to be preserved at temperature between 59°F and 86°F. It should be protected from wet and moisture places.
